Today marks the beginning of a very important time of year for us, cystic fibrosis awareness month. We are so excited to kick off what will be a very full & busy month for us, with lots of opportunities for you to help us raise important awareness and funds for cystic fibrosis.
Here’s an overview of everything we have going on this May:
The Walk to Make Cystic Fibrosis History
Mark your calendars: On May 28th, thousands of participants across Canada will unite at local community walk sites to celebrate their fundraising efforts, all in the spirit of creating a world without CF.
Over 10,000 supporters, including volunteers, donors, partners and participants help support Cystic Fibrosis Canada’s mission; to end cystic fibrosis (CF). The funds raised at the walk are used to target world-class research, supporting and advocating for high-quality individualized CF care and raising and allocating funds for these purposes.
Be sure to register for your local walk site, or join us virtually at www.cysticfibrosis.ca/walk
Access to Medicine – Sign the Petition
Many in our community are facing the challenge of accessing the drugs they need to drastically improve their quality of life. Ensuring those with CF have access to medicine is a cornerstone of the advocacy work CF Canada does, and today we’re working to tell the government that Orkambi needs to be covered for those who have been prescribed it. While Orkambi is today’s fight, the impact it will have on ensuring future drugs are accessible for those who need them is serious.
This May, help us reach decision-makers and other Canadians to share the challenge our community is up against by signing the petition and sharing it with your family and friends. Visit action.cysticfibrosis.ca to add your name!
Share the Moments That Matter
In our work to gain easy access to Orkambi, we are also calling on our community to share the moments that matter between them and their loved ones with CF. Whether it’s taking your son to his soccer game, going trick-or-treating, your annual camping trip or simply being able to go out for date night, these moments can be impacted when CF gets in the way.
When you have cystic fibrosis any hour of any day can suddenly swing and how you felt is no longer how you feel. Good days can become bad days, and the moments you want can be hard to have. But, if when you can get the care or medication you need, your quality of life can improve allowing you to do the things that are important to you.
We’re calling on our community create video messages that share the moments that matter to them and help tell Canadians why signing our petition is so important – having access to Orkambi and any drug or care someone with CF needs can be life-altering.
