Living with Cystic Fibrosis and __________

Do you have CFRD? Anxiety? Depression? Living with CF can produce or exacerbate other disorders and illnesses; it’s overwhelming to take care of CF on its own, but adding another health issue to the mix? If you feel this way, you’re not alone. Here is what our community has to say about managing multiple health issues:

  • “With a lot of organization so I can stay on top CF- related illnesses, but also with a lot of adaptability and flexibility. One of the biggest things CF has taught me is how to roll with the punches CF throws. Being able to adapt to the unpredictability of CF has allowed me to feel just a little bit more in control, even when I have no control over what is happening to my body.” – Kim Wood
  • “I manage by staying connected with friends and playing Xbox. I try to keep myself busy otherwise my thoughts wander.” – Nicholas Evans
  • “Well the first thing that I would say is that I have always placed the care of my CF above the care of diabetes. If I need to eat a lot, then do it, and treat the diabetes with insulin. With mental illnesses it’s a bit different, because they can feel so consuming and overwhelming, but I’ve learnt that a lot of it is intertwined. I’ve learnt coping mechanisms that help my control my anxiety and that help me feel better overall, and more optimistic when dealing with living with CF.” – Chelsea Gagnon
