Say what?!

Have you ever seen eyebrows rise or jaws drop when talking about your CF? CFers and those close to them are experts on living with cystic fibrosis, but there are often surprising things to those on the outside. Here’s a round-up of just a few of them:

  • “That it’s such a multi-system yet invisible disease, the amount of time it takes to stay on top of CF, and the ability people with CF have to overcome challenges in a very pragmatic and positive way. “ – Kim Wood
  • “Usually, just the fact that I have CF surprises people – it’s an invisible disease, and most people just assume that because I’m happy and keep fairly busy, I am also healthy. People also tend to be surprised when they learn that CF can lead to other complications, such as CFRD, infertility, or Osteoporosis. Of course, when they see how many pills I take with a meal, which usually surprises them too!” – Terra Stephenson
  • “Something that surprises me is the determination and persistent of people with cf. Most make goals that even healthy people dare not attain.” – Nicholas Evans
  • “I find the biggest surprise for people is when I tell them what my lung function is, or when I tell them how many pills/medication I take in a day.” – Mackenzie Norris
  • “That a transplant doesn’t end the effects of CF on my body. And that I don’t look like I have a chronic terminal illness.” – Robert Burch
