Looking for an interesting and fun way to support CF Canada this summer? If you’re into cycling (or know someone who is), join us this June for our one of our GearUp4CF rides! Pick a coast – you can join us on the west coast, starting in White Rock, BC and ending in Banff, AB, or visit the east coast in Prince Edward Island for a ride around the perimeter of the island. Both rides have multiple options for participation, from just a few days to the full ride, or if you’re not a cyclist yourself you can sponsor a rider, spectate and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
The GearUp4CF ride started 10 years ago in B.C. and has since raised over $1.75 million for vital cystic fibrosis research and care. The ride was started by Dr. David Speert, a leading CF researcher we have funded since 1980. He rides every year alongside several members of his lab team. The 1,200km ride on the West Coast starts on the beautiful beaches of White Rock, rolls through the interior and Kootenay Pass and then ends in the picturesque Rockies in Banff.
The ride has been so successful that it has branched out to PEI, where the 850km ride covers the entire perimeter of the province over eight days. The PEI ride was organized in 2013 by Paula Clark, the mother of two children with cystic fibrosis. Cycling has been a lifelong passion of hers and a long-time family hobby, so in 2012 when she returned from the West Coast ride, she was inspired to hold a ride on the east coast.
If you enjoy cycling, exploring Canada’s natural beauty and, most of all, helping to end CF, sign up for a ride! Registration for the west coast ride is open here; and here for the east coast. Daily cycling distances range between 100 and 121 km and it is a fully-supported ride (meaning support vehicles, accommodation and food are provided). Ride with us to help end CF!
