Cystic Fibrosis Canada supports high quality care for people with cystic fibrosis at clinics in hospitals in many major Canadian cities. Specialized care includes testing lung function and capacity, monitoring weight and diets, and prescribing drugs. Each clinic visit (3-4 annually) includes a discussion and evaluation with the CF team – physician, nurse, physiotherapist, dietitian and social worker. Ideally, these same team members care for people with CF when they are hospitalized.
Some CF clinics conduct 'Outreach Clinics'. A CF physician, nurse and occasionally another team member travel to a city (that has no CF clinic) to see people with CF at a local hospital. These day-long clinics (once or twice annually) ensure people have specialized CF care even if they do not live close to a CF clinic.
