As the school year comes to a close across the country, many parents will soon find themselves spending more time with their children as summer vacation begins. It’s also a time to reflect on another school year gone, which is another year passed in the growth and development of their child. It’s a great opportunity for parents to check in both with their child and themselves to ensure everyone is managing the challenges CF (cystic fibrosis) presents.
Last year, we held a webinar as part of our Virtual Education Program for Patients and Caregivers that featured Lisa C. Greene, author of three books on parenting children with health issues, certified Family Life Educator, and mother of two teenagers with CF. Lisa’s presentation covered everything from leadership as a parent, the importance of family relationships and good communication. She also covered the importance of maintaining relationships with friends and family in order to support the emotional health of parents.
Researchers have found that family interactions and the emotional environment in which children are raised have a powerful impact on the child’s overall health; a fact which Lisa stresses is of utmost importance when it comes to raising a child with cystic fibrosis, as you must ensure that you don’t forget to care for yourself in order to provide the best care for your child.
