But first, allow me to introduce myself – I am Teresa. I’m 18 years old and I live in Weyburn, Saskatchewan with my parents and three younger siblings. I was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis (CF) when I was 3-years-old, but I’ve tried hard not to let my diagnosis slow me down. I spend most of my time dancing or teaching dance, which I am very passionate about. I am currently working hard to improve my lung function as I have been struggling with some pretty low numbers lately.
What is the September Challenge?! The challenge is simple: Cystic Fibrosis Canada has announced an urgent goal to raise $30,000 in 30 days, which is how much it costs to fund one research lab for four months! If we rally together right now, we can make September a month of hope. Can you help us meet our goal by making a donation today?
As you likely already know, incredible CF research breakthroughs have brought us highly effective modulators like Trikafta, which have revolutionized CF treatment. As incredible as this progress is, these drugs are not a cure and they do not help all people living with cystic fibrosis.
Sadly, I am one of those people.
I don’t want to be left behind. It is hard to watch from the sidelines as someone who can’t use this medication. I hope that one day I can gain access to a medication that benefits me the way that some people have benefited from Trikafta. I am supporting the September Challenge to fund a research lab because my life depends on the next research breakthrough.
